8minute Solar Energy is the largest privately-held developer of solar and storage projects in the United States. About the Position:

The IT Manager will be responsible for overseeing all IT support for 8minute Solar Energy. Areas of focus are: desktop support, server and application administration, network infrastructure, and information systems strategy. The role will interface internally with all the staff and externally with vendors and consultants to support the technology solutions.

Essential Function and Responsibilities:

Incident Response:

  • Manage IT incident responses, and designate responsibilities appropriately between administrative employees, yourself, or external consultants when necessary
  • Effectively communicate common IT issues to the entire team as necessary, and provide information on how they should respond
  • Ensure that remote-in applications and other tools are in place and working properly so that our geographically distributed network of employees can receive help from anywhere

Cybersecurity:

  • Consistently remind employees of the importance of being aware of cybersecurity best practices, and provide an updated presentation including cybersecurity twice a year
  • Perform hacker tests on the organization once a year to simulate a real incident and assess the team’s response
  • Investigate and manage the reporting of questionable e-mail messages and escalate or take appropriate actions
  • Assist the engineering team with meeting cybersecurity requirements for solar plant operations

Microsoft and Office 365:

  • Consistently evaluate different subscription options available for Office 365 and what suits 8minute Solar Energy’s needs best
  • Attend conferences or webinars to stay up to date on all things Microsoft enterprise
  • Work with various functional teams and external consultants as necessary to customize SharePoint to better meet the needs of the company
  • Create and manage manuals that include instructions and information employees should know about using various Office programs
  • Perform back-ups of SharePoint and other file repositories

IT Operations:

  • Establish IT ticketing system
  • Determine the standard devices that should be purchased including computer and phone models
  • Manage best practices for the onboarding and offboarding process and communicate the policy to the administrative team
  • Communicate with HR to Evaluate unique needs or requests during the onboarding and offboarding processes and make appropriate recommendations
  • Provide IT training and materials to each new employee
  • Evaluate employee requests to upgrade their current devices and provide a recommendation
  • Ensure network speeds and uptimes are meeting office requirements, and coordinate with third parties to make changes as necessary
  • Ensure offices are equipped with the proper monitors, projectors, displays, printers, and any other necessary IT accessories
  • Create a system and process for automatically keeping hardware up to date

Other Responsibilities:

  • With the bigger picture in mind, make recommendations for improvements to larger programs and processes
  • Take initiative to implement changes with the help of external consultants if necessary, and organize and manage the process
  • Ensure there is a policy so that all IT equipment is being accounted for in inventory
  • Generate consistent reports on spending, employee satisfaction, and average ticket response and completion time
  • Manage junior support staff

 Skills:

  • Office 365 and cloud security
  • Windows 10 & MacOS systems
  • Theory, principles and practices of computer systems and related analysis and design
  • Knowledge of computer operating systems and compatibility of multiple operating systems
  • Knowledge of local area networks, hardware and network technology, and data communications software
  • Firewall, routing, and VPN connectivity systems
  • Network security and best practices consistent with industry standards
  • Industry data privacy standards and guidelines
  • Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat, and PowerPoint
  • Principles and practices of project management and budget development, work planning and organization
  • Office management protocols, procedures, software and equipment
  • Some working web knowledge (CMS/HTML/CSS) *preferred not required*
  • Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) *preferred not required*
  • Solutions Expert (MCSE) *preferred not required*
  • IT Professional (MCITP) *preferred not required*
